Google Photos Memories is a new feature in Chrome that lets you store photos and videos on your computer so you can access them later. You can add photos, videos, or both to your Google Photos account and then access them from any page or device. To get started, open Chrome and click the three lines in the top left corner of the main window. On the left side of the screen, you’ll see a list of your current tabs. Click on one of them and then click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main window to get to Google Photos Memories. When you first open Google Photos Memories, it will ask if you want to add photos or videos. If you choose photos, it will create a new album called “Photos & Videos.” If you choose videos, it will create a new video album called “Videos.” If both albums are empty, they will be filled with default images from your photo library if that’s what you have set up for Google Photos. If you decide to add photos or videos, there are a few things that you need to do first. First, find an image from your photo library that is large enough to fill an entire row in Google Photos Memories. Then click on it and select “Add as Photo.” Next, find an image from your video library that is large enough to fill an entire column in Google Photos Memories. Then click on it and select “Add as Video.” Finally, enter a name for each album (for example “Photos & Videos” or “Google Photos memories”) and hit OK. Once all of your images and videos are added, they will be available under “Google Photos memories” in the left-hand sidebar of your main window. You can now use them just like any other photo or video!

Google Chrome’s New Tab Page on the desktop can display some useful information—if you like that sort of thing. You can even see your Google Photos memories on the New Tab Page. We’ll show you how to enable it.

At the time of writing in November 2021, Google is testing the ability to see Google Photos memories on Chrome’s New Tab Page. It can be enabled with a couple of Feature Flags. The flags are available on all Chrome channels, but it seems to work best in the Beta channel (Chrome 97).

First, open the Chrome browser on your computer. Type chrome://flags in the address bar and hit enter.

Next, enter “NTP” in the search bar at the top of the screen. There are two flags you’ll need to enable: “NTP Modules” and “NTP Photos Module.”

After enabling the flags, you’ll need to restart the browser to apply the changes. You can enable both flags before relaunching. Select the blue “Relaunch” button when you’re ready.

Once the browser has relaunched, go to the New Tab Page. You’ll see a Google Photos card, tap the “See Memories” button to set it up.

If you’re already signed into your Google account, you’ll immediately see memories for today. You may need to refresh the page the first time. Make sure you’re signed in if you don’t see anything.

Click the three-dot menu icon in the top right of the card to adjust the settings.

That’s all there is to it! One thing to keep in mind is this will replace the stable “Cards” feature that is normally present on the New Tab Page. Eventually, the Google Photos feature will be part of that. Until now, this is how you can use it.
